Overview:
The AAP CO Chapter Conference 2018 is a full day conference specifically designed to address clinical issues of interest to general pediatricians and other health care professionals who care for children. The format will include didactic presentations and will focus on integrating innovative case-based discussions relevant to a primary care practice. Each session will include sufficient time for questions and answers. Technology will be used to make the activities interactive. This year’s conference will be informative, collaborative, stimulating and pediatric professionals will undoubtedly learn something new to implement into their clinical practice!

Activity Performance Expectations
By the end of the activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify the top themes in pediatric articles recently published and highlight incorporate potential practice changes.
- Integrate a culturally sensitive approach to gender into practice and recognize the intricacies of medically managing the transgendered youth including hormone blockers, hormonal therapy, legalities, ethics, psychological evaluations,healthcare disparities, top surgery and gonadal surgery.
- Differentiate how the management of UTIs in children has changed since the AAP practice guidelines were released in 2011 and analyze and discuss the recommendations of the new CHCO CCG on Management of Pediatric Urinary Tract Infections including whom to test and how, antibiotic choice and duration, imaging, and interpretation of results.
- Develop a practical outpatient approach to weaning opioids after discharge from the NICU; identify which patients are at increased risk for opioid addiction and determine how to manage them appropriately, identify appropriate short acting opioids for use in acute outpatient management and delineate new Opioid Clinical Care Guidelines illustrating safe prescribing practices.
- Know the new normative blood pressure tables based on children with normal weight, define new AAP recommendation for screening blood pressure checks at preventative visits only and identify guidelines on initial evaluation and management of abnormal blood pressures.
- Identify the increased prevalence of celiac disease and know the new USPTF recommendations around screening in asymptomatic children and identify which screening labs to obtain for celiac disease and how to interpret them.
