Our Focus

With over 800 members statewide, the American Academy of Pediatrics – Colorado Chapter (AAP-CO) has a long history of working tirelessly on behalf of children, families and pediatric professionals. Through advocacy, education and networking opportunities, AAP-CO aims to improve the lives and well-being of Colorado’s infants, children, adolescents and young adults across Colorado.

Together, let’s elevate and maintain pediatric behavioral health and mental well-being as a priority in our state through initiatives that:

  • Advance effective prevention, early detection and treatment of behavioral health conditions
  • Expand the behavioral health resources available to pediatric primary care providers
  • Innovate around the delivery of behavioral health services and payment for such services

Together, let’s advance efforts that give children the best foundation for their future by working towards programs that:

  • Expand access to health care services, particularly for low income, immigrant and refugee children in rural and underserved communities<
  • Ensure access to nutritious food to combat both hunger and obesity
  • Promote solutions that improve air quality, safe streets, and green space

Together, let’s protect access to immunizations to help children stay healthy and thrive throughout their lifespan by promoting policies that:

  • Increase immunization rates for all children
  • Reduce barriers for primary care providers who provide immunizations in the medical home setting
  • Improve data collection and surveillance by strengthening the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS)

Together, let’s ensure that all children have high-quality, accessible and safe pediatric care no matter where they live in our state by elevating measures that:

  • Incorporate the unique aspects of pediatric care which are based on promotion, prevention, and early intervention, leading to long-term optimal health outcomes for children
  • Promote alternative payment models anchored in pediatrics, with a focus on the well-being of the whole child and that ensures sustainability, flexibility, and equity
  • Strengthen Colorado’s primary care system for all families and children, including commercially insured, Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus patients

Meet Our Board, Staff and Committees

“Through my participation in the Chapter’s Legislation and Policy Committee, I can make positive changes for the children outside of the clinic walls through supporting vaccine requirements for daycares and schools and strengthening gun safety legislation. For me, advocacy is an important part of being a pediatrician and AAP Colorado gives me the tools and space to speak up on behalf of children.”
