Newborn Screening Virtual Education Series: Hemoglobinopathies and Endocrine Disorders

Overview, Target Audience and Learner Outcome
This activity, designed for the primary care providers and interdisciplinary healthcare teams will
include a review of current newborn screening disorders screened by the Colorado Newborn
Screening Program for Colorado and Wyoming. In addition to a presentation from content experts,
attendees will participate in case study review and discussion to provide direction on clinical
practice. As a result of this activity, learners will be able to apply new knowledge to ensure
current, evidence-based care to their pediatric patients with positive newborn screens.
Objectives
Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Describe disorders currently screened for on the Colorado state newborn screening panel and understand the clinical follow-up and care considerations for the various disorders.
- Understand the role primary care providers and interdisciplinary healthcare teams have in identifying and providing management for infants with disorders on the newborn screening panel.
