The Colorado Immunization Branch, at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, works to reduce vaccine-preventable disease by developing and implementing programs designed to positively influence the uptake of immunizations across the lifespan. The Immunization Branch utilizes a variety of strategies to promote education, optimize vaccine resources, assure access to vaccines and maintain the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS), a confidential, population-based, computerized information system that collects and consolidates immunization data for Coloradans of all ages from a variety of sources and provides tools for designing and sustaining effective immunization strategies at the provider and program levels. The Consortium for Outcome Measures and Biomarkers for Neurodevelopmental Disorders (COMBINEDBrain) is a non-profit organization devoted to speeding the path to clinical treatments for people with rare genetic neurological disorders by pooling efforts, studies, and data. COMBINEDBrain is currently conducting Project FIND-OUT and is interested in partnering with pediatricians on this project.

Underdiagnosis and late diagnosis are significant problems in rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorders where early treatment yields the best outcomes. Fewer than a quarter of patients with a rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorder currently have a confirmed genetic diagnosis and the average time to diagnosis from the development of symptoms is more than 30 months. The goal of Project FIND-OUT is to increase the diagnosis rate and reduce the time to diagnosis in infants with rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorders. We are currently conducting our pilot study where we are providing free whole genome sequencing and genetic counseling to 50 infants between the ages of 3 – 12 months who have two or more symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders. For more information, see projectfindout.org.
