Objectives:

  • Recognize the three ways that critical congenital heart disease (CHD) presents symptomatically.
  • Utilize a framework to assess patients for cardiac causes of the three symptomatic presentations: cyanosis, hypoperfusion, and respiratory distress/failure to thrive.
  • Apply “symptomatic versus asymptomatic” schema to clinical cases to determine if a patient has critical CHD
